Diminished 4th
Formed in the summer of 2001 expressly for the
purpose of competing in the fall contest, Diminished 4th has really come to enjoy performing in public. One might
infer that the quartet is intellectual in nature having named itself after an obscure musical interval that is seldom
used. That is just a coincidence and any inference based upon said coincidence is not true. These four sons of the
soil just thought "Diminished 4th" sounded better than " 3 Big Guys and a Runt". Intellect is not their forte, country
humor and barbershop harmony is.
Members are:
Lead, Jim Sweers farms and owns and operates Jim's Electric and Odd Jobs, an electrical contracting business.
Jim tied the knot in June, 2005 to his new wife, Julie. They now reside somewhere between Britt and Kanawha with their step-daughter, Jackie.
Tenor, Marc Murray owns and operates The Lawn Guy lawn service in Mason City
and also many Calendar Club stores
around the North Iowa and Southern Minnesota area during the holidays. Marc lives in
Mason City with his wife Michelle
and sons Nicolas and Noah.
Bass, Curt Johnson is from Lake Mills. Curt heads up Commercial, Fleet, and Agricultural Tires for Graham Tire in Mason City and is an avid John Deere Toy collector.
(Guess who got us our hats and water steins.) Curt also doubles as the group's poet.
Baritone, Jayson Ryner is director of Choral Activities at NIACC and lives with his wife Sarah and son Jordan in Nora Springs. Jayson is also a certified Society Music
Judge, directs the River City Barbershop Chorus from the Mason City
Chapter, and arranges many barbershop tunes for the chorus, quartet, and internationally known quartets.
We'd be just plumb tickled to sing for you and your guests at your next party, business
meeting, picnic, reunion, swanky society affair, or weekend hog roast. Just think of
Diminished 4th as your neighbors from down the road, come to pay a little visit.
You just sit back and make yourselves comfortable. We'll sing and laugh and maybe shed a
tear together and you don't even have to make us coffee! (If you are having a hog
roast, we might be persuaded to have a sandwich!) Call Diminished 4th for great barbershop
harmony and country fun. No affair too posh, No get-together too down home!
