Think you would like to ring a chord with us on a regular basis? Here’s our basic audition procedure for becoming a member of the Chorus. We believe in an active, try-it-before-you-buy-it approach to new members:
- Come to rehearsal. We rehearse most Monday nights from 7:30pm to 10pm and you are welcome to show up to any of them, regardless of what music we are learning or working on, the time of year, etc.
- During the first visit we will do a voice and range check to determine which part — Tenor, Lead, Baritone, or Bass — will be most comfortable for you to sing. We want to match your voice with the right section, not the other way around!
- Attend two additional rehearsals. During these rehearsals you will be standing in and around the section making sure you like the part you are singing. If necessary, we may have you try other parts. Section leaders will check and see if everything is going well and make sure you are handling the music and making suggestions to help you fit into the chorus. We don’t want you simply watching us practice; the best way to experience this hobby is to DO this hobby.
- After 3 rehearsals you will be given a vocal audition by the director. This will include singing solo and with the director in harmony.
- After approval by the director, the Music Committee, filling out the paperwork for membership, and the Board approval, you’re good to go as one of our newest members! But don’t think the help and education stops there, because we’ll continue to help you adjust and improve in your barbershop skills all the while having a lot of fun doing so.
